Assam: Sex racket busted in Nagaon district, 10 arrested

Acting upon a tip-off, the police in Nagaon district of Assam, busted a sex racket of Friday. As of now, ten people have been arrested in connection with the case, of which, six are women. The house owner, identified as Mridu Pawan Saikia, a resident of Lakhinagar Chariali, was also among the accused who have been detained.

According to police, they have been informed that a prostitute racket was under operation here. "We have conducted a raid here today and arrested 10 people in connection with the case. Of the 10, we have caught two women red-handed," said the police adding that some college students were also found staying at Saikia's residence on rent.

Moreover, Rs 70,000 in cash have been recovered from Saikia's residence as well as several other objectionable items. "Other people staying on rent will also be questioned in connection with the case," added the police.

In another development, the police busted a sex racket in a house in the Siyalmari area in Barpeta district in Assam. The raid was conducted on Sunday night at the residence of one Atabur Rahman. The police further added that two youths have been caught red-handed along with three girls on the spot. Moreover, two bikes and a few other objectionable items were also recovered, said police, reported The Times of India.

According to Nagaon superintendent of police Anand Mishra, following these cases, the district police have taken some initiative to step up their drive against the illegal activities going on in the district.
