Ranchi: In yet another bizarre incident, a bride in Jharkhand refused to marry the groom after taking saath phere with him and walked out of the mandap just before the sindoor ceremony. The incident happened in Ranchi on Tuesday.

The bride named Chanda took seven rounds around the sacred fire with groom Vinod. Once the saat phere were done, Chanda got up from the mandap and left before the sindoor daan ceremony.

Seven 'pheras' or rounds are taken around the sacred fire by the bride and the groom together to complete the marriage rituals, as per Hindu tradition.

When she was asked why she did not want to marry, she simply said that she didn't like the groom.

The bride and the groom's families tried to persuade her to change her decision but in vain.

The baraat then sat on dharna outside the bride's house demanding her family to compensate them for the money spent in the wedding. Chanda's father told the wedding procession that his daughter was not ready for marriage and he did not have enough money to give.

Last week, a bride from Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, called off her marriage after taking six rounds of the sacred fire. The incident took place in a village in Kulpahad tehsil.

Both the bride and groom's friends and relatives tried their best to convince her to get married but she refused to change her decision.

The issue became so serious that the panchayat had to intervene. When asked why she didn't complete the phere, she said that she didn't like the groom.
