India's Tokyo contingent invited as 'special guests' at Red Fort on August 15 by PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be meeting India's entire contingent participating at Tokyo Olympics 2020 as special guests at the Red Fort on August 15. As reported by news agency ANI, Modi has invited the Indian contingent as special guests and will also meet and interact with them. "On 15th August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will invite the entire Indian Olympics contingent to the Red Fort as special guests. He will also personally meet and interact with all of them around that time," ANI tweeted.

So far India has been assured of three medals at Tokyo Olympics 2020. Mirabai Chanu opened India's account with a historic silver medal in weightlifting followed by PV Sindhu - who won a bronze medal, which was her second successive medal at the mega event following a silver medal which she won at Rio Games 2016. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain has also assured India of a medal.

Throughout Tokyo Olympics 2020, Modi has been cheering for the Indian athletes. Ahead of the Indian contingent's departure to Tokyo, Modi had virtually interacted with the athletes. On Tuesday morning, Modi tweeted a message for the Indian men's hockey team which went down fighting against world champions Belgium in the men's semi-final. "I'm watching the India vs Belgium Hockey Men's Semi Final at #Tokyo2020. Proud of our team and their skills. Wishing them the very best!" Modi tweeted ahead of the match.

As India lost the contest 5-2, Modi tweeted in praise of the Indian men's hockey team for their good show in Tokyo and wished them luck for their next match. "Wins and losses are a part of life. Our Men's Hockey Team at #Tokyo2020 gave their best and that is what counts. Wishing the Team the very best for the next match and their future endeavours. India is proud of our players," he tweeted.
