Guwahati Police Arrest Woman On Drug Trafficking Charges

GUWAHATI: Following a tip-off, Guwahati police arrested a woman from Hatigaon on charges of illicit drug trafficking on Sunday, August 15.

The accused has been identified as one Rona Begum, who was on the run from the police due to a previous drug-related case and was taking shelter at a rented house in Hatigaon.

This was confirmed to G Plus by Hatigaon Police Station(PS) Officer-In-Charge (OC) Tilak Deka.

Guwahati police recovered 10 grams of heroin, a vehicle and Rs 40,000 cash from the accused.

"Latasil police were in search of the lady due to her connection in a previous drug-related case. She fled from her residence in the Dighalipukhuri area and was taking shelter in a rented house in Ashok path in Hatigaon. She was arrested yesterday by Hatigaon police. Legal action has been initiated against her," Tilak Deka told G Plus.

A case under Section 22 (C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Hatigaon Police Station in this regard.

An investigation on the matter is ongoing to unearth further links.
